In the 10 years since we first started our support service here at Laptops Direct, we have witnessed a substantial increase in the number of customers who are affected by viruses and malware. While researching the subject, I have spent the past 12 months testing the numerous solutions out there, to find an effective, yet easy way for the average laptop user to perform DIY malware cleaning. Most of the existing methods I found through Google or Youtube are either out of date, or only work for some of the test subjects. After I perfected our own method described in this article, I was able to test it on 121 units, with fantastic results. Therefore I felt compelled to write a guide which will hopefully be beneficial to all laptop users.

 One question I get asked more and more frequently when helping someone choose a new laptop is: Should I go for 32Bit or 64Bit Windows? Well, the answer isn't so straight forward.

 When SSD drives were first introduced, they promised three advantages over conventional hard drives: higher performance, better stability due to the lack of moving parts and, lower power consumption leading to better battery life.
Whilst it's hard to argue with the first two points, I've often been asked whether SSD really improves battery life in a laptop/netbook. To find out the answer, I dug a little deeper into the numbers. Now, it's worth noting that there are many different types of SSD drives, and the technology is bound to improve over time. At the time of writing I can only go by the current crop. Please only use this article as a general guide.
