How to make WooCommerce checkout like Shopify

WooCommerce Shopify style template

[vc_row][vc_column css=”.vc_custom_1537371577868{padding-right: 0px !important;padding-left: 0px !important;}”][vc_column_text]There’s a lot of differences between Shopify and WooCommerce. One is an open-source platform with great flexibility to customise to your heart’s desire. The other is a great platform but has a monthly cost. They’re both fantastic platforms with their own pro’s and con’s but the fact is that WooCommerce is used by over 4 million live websites and powers just under 30% of all online stores.

If you’re reading this, the chances are that you already have a WordPress installation and are using a custom theme to power your e-commerce store. There’s a huge variety of free and premium themes readily available online but if there is one thing they are always lacking, it’s a custom designed checkout page.

For some reason, theme developers whilst creating fantastic e-commerce theme designs, always seem to overlook the ‘my account’ and checkout pages. It’s common to find custom mini carts and baskets but navigate to the checkout page and you’ll always be able to tell when it’s WooCommerce.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Why use Shopify checkout over WooCommerce?[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]There’s always one similarity between e-commerce stores and their primary focus. It’s to sell products. That means reducing cart abandonment which is a big issue. Studies are carried out every year and the stats show that over two thirds of e-commerce stores suffer from cart abandonment.

For some industries, this number is even higher. Cart abandonment is when someone has products in their cart but doesn’t complete the checkout process. There can be many reasons for this. The main reasons include:

  • Poor user experience and design
  • A lack of trust in the website
  • Complicated checkout process
  • Time consuming checkout pages
  • A slow checkout process
  • Being forced to create an account

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Let’s focus on those first two points for a minute. Which of the following checkout pages would you trust more?[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row” css=”.vc_custom_1537371552022{padding-top: 50px !important;padding-bottom: 50px !important;}”][vc_column css=”.vc_custom_1537371538610{padding-right: 0px !important;padding-left: 0px !important;}”][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner css=”.vc_custom_1535988337298{margin-right: -30px !important;padding-right: 0px !important;padding-left: 0px !important;}”][tek_masonrygallery_elem mg_columns=”two-columns” css_animation=””][tek_masonrygallery_elem_single image_source=”media_library” mg_image=”7880″ mg_size=”mg-small”][tek_masonrygallery_elem_single image_source=”media_library” mg_image=”7665″ mg_size=”mg-small”][/tek_masonrygallery_elem][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column css=”.vc_custom_1537371583186{padding-right: 0px !important;padding-left: 0px !important;}”][vc_column_text]The one on the left, is the default checkout. If you’re using WooCommerce, the chances are your checkout page looks similar to the one on the left. Yes it may have some custom styling and be modified to an extent, but its instantly recognisable as a WooCommerce checkout page.

The one on the right, is a styled Shopify checkout page. It instantly promotes trust and fixes most of the issues that cause cart abandonment. It’s a simple checkout, its fast and the design is beautiful.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]How to use the Shopify checkout page in WooCommerce?[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]The good news is, that it’s possible to create the same user experience in WooCommerce, and easily too.
